Once a month my church decides to have coffee and fellowship before the service and then lunch and small groups after worship time. I enjoy these days. This morning's sermon was about forgiveness - getting ourselves right with God and with eachother. I am forever grateful that the Lord of all creation has forgiven me of all my sins.... through the grace of Christ on the cross. It's not always easy to forgive someone else, but if I try to remember that God gave up His one and only Son, makes it an ounce easier.
Walking out of the sanctuary, I grabbed a number from the tiny woven basket, and found out that my small group was meeting in the library. Divinely, a great small group was put together of four adults and three children/teens. We honestly shared times when we needed to ask for forgiveness, or when we found it hard to forgive and spent time in prayer together.
Today was the perfect way to spend a Sunday... church, a nap, and a fantastic Major League Ball game. A nail-biting, shut-out win for Texas over St. Louis, 4-0. Now it's off to bed!
Week 4. We Pray for the Discovery Weekend
Day 7: October 23
Read: Ephesians 4:11-16
"Now these are the gifts Christ gave the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love."
Today we pray for:
Unity in Bethel CRC and God's leading.
